CIA v NLA Saints

In what was a strange game from start to finish, the result remains undecided between CIA and NLA Saints after unregistered players were fielded and mistakes made on the score. The final decision lies with the league.

CIA travelled to Dalston understrengthed without Small Forwards Lee Fraser and Chi Lewis-Parry and missing rookie Point Guard Kyran Boyce and would be forced to start the game with just 6 players. However CIA held their own, Nik Lawry firing from behind the 3-point arc early on. Michale Brown also made a difference inside, rolling to the basket for two points, drawing two fouls and making it count from the foul line.

In the second quarter Daniel Montague made his presence known on his way to 22 points whilst Gene Brown begun to warm up from mid-range.

It was much the same story in the third quarter with good defence keeping CIA within striking distance throughout despite struggling to attract calls on the inside. Tayo Orija played solidly taking down 4 rebounds and Daniel Montague stopped a possible dunk opportunity with a huge block which was ruled a foul.

In the final quarter CIA were surprised to see themselves on the losing end of the scoresheet and took matters into their own hands. Tony Brown hit 3 threes in the final quarter alone, Nik added one more and Daniel Montague cleared up at the rim. With the score out of their control, CIA were forced to foul to further narrow the gap but NLA held on for victory.

CIA Point Guard Luke Bowler started off the season well from the line making 100% on 4-of-4 shooting and adding 6 points and 6 assists. Darryl Lewis fell 3 rebounds short of another double-double with 12 points and 7 rebounds whilst Tony Brown managed to drop 14 points in just 19 minutes shooting 4 from 5 from the 3-point line.

CIA await the league’s decision but will spend this week focusing on their next home fixture against the Westminster Warriors on Saturday 19 December. The game takes place at Westcroft Leisure Centre at 7:30pm
