CIA clinch 4th spot
CIA continued their winning form tonight as they moved into fourth place with a 68-46 win over the Greenwich Admirals. After a disappointing loss to the Admirals earlier in the season, CIA put the record straight with a comfortable win, now holding the best points difference in the league. Next Saturday’s game against the top placed Knights will be a deciding game in who tops the table later in the season.
CIA raced to an early lead with Luke Bowler hitting 8 of his 10 points in the first quarter. Full court defence forced the Admirals to turn over the ball as CIA racked up the points leading 22-4 before an Admirals time out. The Admirals were held scoreless for 7 minutes before a lethargic effort allowed the visitors to slowly claw back some points, ending the quarter 25-11.
In the second quarter CIA managed just 9 points but the Admirals failed to capitalise hitting just 6 points. Coach Tony Brown hit from downtown as well as grabbing 2 of his 4 steals.
In the second half CIA began to increase the pressure, Darryl Lewis pulling down 3 rebounds and Daniel Montague recording 5 steals for the quarter. The third quarter ended 44-35 with CIA still unable to pull away but retaining a comfortable margin.
In the fourth quarter CIA finally lengthened the gap. Darryl Lewis scored 10 of his 14 points whilst Chi Lewis-Parry reached another double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. With the win CIA move into fourth position with a string of vital games ahead that will decide the season outcome. CIA aim to finish in the top 2 and return to the Premier Division next year. To do so they’ll need to beat the travelling Knights on Saturday 6th February. The Knights, who feature former National League sharp shooter Pete Knetchel, currently sit top of the league having won 8 out of their 10 games. CIA have 3 games in hand and currently hold a better points difference.
