CIA knock Knights off top spot

CIA v Knights – Highlights on Vimeo.

CIA continued their unbeaten form at home by dumping the Knights off of the top spot in the LMBL. Chi Lewis-Parry recorded yet another double-double, including 3 spectacular dunks, despite a broken finger as CIA ran away with a 25-point victory 75-50.

Knights carried the leagues best record going into Saturday’s game at 10-2 with CIA 5-2 with several games in hand. CIA looked comfortable as they controlled the tempo from the beginning but with Knights unable to miss in the first quarter the scores remained close. It took 4 threes from CIA to retain the league, one from Bowler and Montague and two from coach Tony Brown. CIA held a narrow 3 point lead at the end of the first 19-16.

In the second quarter CIA showed their maturity as they began to extend the lead. Babs Maye and Shaun Gray controlled the game from the point whilst Darryl Lewis continued to draw fouls inside as CIA finished out the half, 38=28.

It was much of the same in the third quarter, Daniel Montague and Gene Brown finishing strong at the basket. Bowler brought his total to 8 hitting a three from the corner and Player/Coach Tony Brown added 2 more three pointers, shooting 4-6 from behind the 3-point arc. Harrowing full court pressure from CIA forced a multitude of turnovers for the visitors and CIA ended the quarter leading 52-39.

The final quarter belonged to Chi Lewis-Parry who battled through the pain (broken finger) to score 10 of his 14 points including 3 monster dunks off the back of excellent front court defence. The 6′8″ Small Forward raced up the court to put the hammer down on two Knights players and ignite the crowd. You can check out the dunk in the video below.

It was left to guards Shaun Gray, Babs Maye and Luke Bowler to control the pace in the final minutes, finishing the game to win by 25 points, 75-50. The win means Knights will be knocked off of the top spot in the LMBL if CIA can win their next two games. CIA currently boast the best points difference in the league and a home fixture against Euston Power on the 20th February will be a crucial decider. Before that CIA will travel to Swiss Cottage on Wednesday to play the Panthers before hosting Hoxton Heat on Saturday at Westcroft Leisure Centre.
