Top 3 for CIA
CIA leaped into third position in the league after another comfortable 19-point victory over the Camden Panthers on Wednesday. Despite being level at the half, CIA’s maturity took over as they raced to a 10 point lead within minutes of the third quarter and never looked back. CIA will have to await the league’s decision over their game against Euston after it was abandoned in the third quarter.
Camden Panthers started confidently, keen to record their second win of the season as they currently lie in the relegation zone. CIA on the other hand got off to a lethargic start, failing to capitalise on good offensive production by giving up easy baskets. It was a physical battle inside too as Chi Lewis-Parry got called for two early fouls and forced to take a rest.
Daniel Montague gave the visitors more to worry about as he drove baseline and rose above the defense for a nasty two hand dunk in the second quarter and Shaun Gray carried the offensive load with 3 threes from the same spot and a tough layup between two defenders. Despite a slow start the scores were level going in to the half time break.
In the third quarter Point Guard Luke Bowler connected with Montague above the rim for the big alley oop that sparked a 10-0 CIA run. Gene and Michale Brown went hard to the basket while Darryl Lewis controlled the defensive boards. Montague finished the game in style beating his man and driving to the basket for a two-handed reverse dunk to beat the buzzer.
The win puts CIA in third position. Both CIA and Euston Power both hold 7-2 records, with CIA ahead in points difference by a margin of 22 points. CIA boast the best record in the league, only trailing behind NLA Saints and Knights due to games played. CIA played Euston on Saturday but with the game becoming heated, it was abandoned in the third quarter, with CIA leading throughout. Meanwhile CIA will prepare to host London Capitals on Saturday at Westcroft Leisure Centre at 7:30pm.
