After dismissing the visiting NLA Saints on Saturday night, CIA face their biggest test yet as they face off against third place Euston Power to take pole position in the LMBL Division 1.
NLA Saints came confident of an away victory when they travelled to Westcroft Leisure Centre on Saturday but CIA’s maturity paid dividends as they cruised to a 16-point victory that puts them in second position, only behind NLA Saints due to games played.
Euston Power occupy the number three spot, boasting the same win/loss record as CIA but trailing due to points difference. CIA have the best points difference in the league with + 167 and will aim to shut the door on the title race when they travel to Euston on Sunday (21 March). It’s the second trip to the Space Centre in as many weeks for CIA who fought off a late charge from Hoxton Heat at the Hackney leisure centre last weekend.
CIA will expect to welcome back Point Guards Luke Bowler and Babs Maye and Chi Lewis-Parry is expected to once again manage the rotation coming off the bench. Gene Brown, who exploded for 15 points and 8 rebounds in the game against NLA, is also hopeful of a full recovery despite a calf injury that forced him to the bench for the remainder of the fourth quarter.
Euston will have to fight off local rivals Hoxton first when the two teams match up tonight. As they both play and train at the same venue there’ll be no home court advantage for these two teams but the local rivalry is expected to play a deciding factor.
Both CIA and Euston will have to overcome crucial games against Camden Knights in the title race but sit comfortably ahead, the only teams to drop just two games for the season.
