Presence of greatness
We’re honored to announce that Patricia Fairclough OBE will be on hand at this year’s Family Festival to present someone with the Golden Molten Basketball, signed by everyone at the Festival. The award recognises those players, coaches, organisers and volunteers who have dedicated their time to working for the community.
Last year the award went to former England International Head Coach, Peter Scantlebury MBE, who celebrated in style with a performance reminiscent of his former playing days.
Patricia Fairclough is one of the most respected and longest standing figures in British Basketball and an inspiration to many. She overcame battles of sexism and racism to become a role model for women and for sportspeople the world over, recognised with an OBE in 2000, but still working hard.
Event organiser Luke Bowler said, “It really is an honour to have Patricia with us for the Festival – I did my first table official course with her almost a decade ago and had no idea I was in the presence of such a prestigious figure in the basketball community. Her infectious and bubbly character made an indelible impression and I’m delighted that she has agreed to present this year’s ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Community Award’.”
The Festival takes place at Canons Leisure Centre in Mitcham (CR4 4HD) and tickets cost just £5 Adults, £3 Children/Students (showing a valid NUS card) and £12 for a Family of 4 (2 Adults, 2 Children or 1 Adult, 3 Children). Doors open at 5:30pm.
