CIA continue winning ways

CIA picked up where they left off last night, starting their preseason with a confident 43 point win over Epsom Rockets in a friendly exhibition game. Despite a rusty first quarter, CIA held the home team to just a single basket (2 points) in the fourth to seal victory 75-32.
Both teams trialled new players with Aaron Lawmann suiting up for the first time for CIA. He wasted no time in making an impression with harrowing defence that led to countless steals and fastbreak points.
In the first quarter CIA allowed a 7 point lead to slip away but some wise words from Coach Brown inspired an immediate 10 point cushion that would only grow as the game went on. Darryl Lewis, Aaron Lawmann, Rob Cornthwaite and Nik Lawry all stood out, making a difference on both ends of the floor.
Players in last year’s championship winning team will receive their winners medals on Saturday at the annual CIA awards evening. Awards for MVP, MIP, Offensive Player, Defensive Player and Team Player of the Year will also be given out.
CIA begins preseason training on 1 Sept and will have to work hard to ensure they are ready when the season starts in October.
