HOOPS is a national grassroots coaching and mentoring program based around a unique system of coaching in grids. The HOOPS program enables coaches of any level to break down complex skills into manageable layers,
taking individuals that have never played before and filtering them towards team play in performance basketball.

HOOPS is broken down into 4 levels; Foundation Skills, Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3, with a standardized grading criteria ensuring participants experience success and measurable improvement at every stage. The HOOPS program adopts a purist approach, a foundational and academic base from which players become a graduate of the system.

We use a ‘GRID System’, authored by Senior Tutor Coach Walsh, that enables coaches to break down complex skills into manageable layers, taking individuals that have never played the game before and filtering them towards team play in performance basketball. The ‘GRID System’ simply puts a structure in place that is invisible to players, combining individual responsibility and individual skills, working together in a team environment. By breaking down the teaching of skills into layers we ensure coaches have realistic expectations of their players, not solely based around ability. We allow coaches to maintain their own unique character whilst matching coaching styles to the level of the players being coached.

Over our 15 year history we’ve found that coaching young people can be a skill in itself and over that time we’ve developed a unique understanding of grassroots coaching. We’re excited to be launching a brand new program in 2011, our 16th Year of operation, that incorporates this learning and develops players of any age and ability.

Do you only coach kids?

No, we also have coaches that specialize in ‘remedial coaching’. This form of coaching can be described as ‘curative,’ making adjustments to improve specialist skills such as increasing shooting percentage. The GRID system works here too, stressing the importance of spacing and timing and teaching players to pass and move with purpose.

If you’d like to know more about our coaching, why not come down and watch or even get involved. We coach a variety of sessions every week and you’re welcome to attend!
